So Far, So Good

Today I found myself feeling suddenly overwhelmed, over-emotional, and a wee bit misty.  Nothing really happened, there’s just a lot on my mind and even more on my perpetually snow-balling to-do list.  At some point today, only for a moment really, it all felt like too much.  I’m a great multi-tasker.  Detail oriented.  Focused.  Hard-working.  But sometimes it catches up to me.  Today, for about an hour, I had one of those times.  I allowed it.  I embraced a couple of tears, fought back the rest, picked up a book and took a break.  Instead of falling victim to the feeling of drowning in a sea of unfinished tasks, I decided to go back and acknowledge all that I have done.

At the beginning of the year I decided that 2010 was going to be a year of change.  Big changes, little changes.  Big goals, little goals.  Fun stuff, difficult stuff.  Just change.  The one thing I really wanted to do was become more disciplined…remember?  In this post?  Well, for the first time in most of my adult life I’ve been referring back to that mile-long list of resolutions and I have to tell you, it feels pretty amazing to see that I’ve already accomplished a decent number of them!  I just told you the other day how much I LOVE crossing things off a list so I thought today I’d brag a bit and show y’all what I’ve managed to do so far.  21 out of a total 90 items isn’t a bad start, eh?  It IS only April after all.  Suddenly I’m feeling a little more accomplished and a lot less glum.

1. Start hiking – Branden & I hiked and it was amazing and super hard all at the same time.  The fact that I can go on a 2.5 mile hike and still carry on throughout the day is so amazing to me after all I’ve been through.  LOVE it!  Can’t wait to tell my amazing doctor in May!
5. Take a yoga class…regularly – It could be more regularly, but I have taken several…it’s a start!
6.Do more nice things for the members of my family, just because – I totally bought made my Mommy an Easter Basket and let her have the house to herself all day.  I’m trying really hard to help out wherever I can when asked.  Sometimes it’s hard, but when I make a conscious effort, it kinda feels good.
8. Read more - The Shack.  The Tipping Point.  The Help.  Better Off.  Body for Life for Women.  Master Your Metabolism. Yep, those are all the books I’ve read so far this year, which is more than ALL of last year!  Can’t wait to see what we choose this Sunday for our new book club book.  I LOVE book club!  Everyone should join one!
9. Watch less TV - I find myself turning off the boob tube more often since I’ve been engrossed in my reading and working on my business.  Music has been much better background noise lately.  I like it!
13. Take more day trips – Well, you saw all the pretty flowers I visited!  Another day trip is planned for this Saturday, can’t wait to see the Huntington Gardens!
20. Play a sport for the first time in years, but go easy on me please – Branden and I played both basketball and tennis.  I LOVED it.  My knees hurt from being so out of shape for so long, but overall it was great and I haven’t felt better in a looooooong time.
21. Buy more cute but practical shoes - Duh, this was the easiest resolution EVER.
24. -Attend a photography workshop - I’m attending a boudoir/lighting workshop this Sunday and I’m stoked!  Keep an eye out for some sexy sexy photos!
25. Find some ways to volunteer or donate my photography services for someone in need – It’s in the works!
44. Make my living solely from photography/painting by the end of the year - So far, so good!  I’m counting it!
60. Learn off-camera lighting techniques - getting better and better, little by little.
63. Upgrade my blog to something a bit nicer – You’ve seen the new blog, have you not?
64. Actually print some of my photos and display them – Done!
67. Unsubscribe to the ridiculous number of magazines I now receive – Done!
71. Attend a new (to me) museum – MOLAA (Museum of Latin American Art)
73. Laugh so hard I cry – Done!  My “little” brother, Zach, had me cracking up so hard I could hardly see…twice.  When did that kid get so funny?
75. Let bygones be bygones – Doing the best I can.  So far so good!
78. Attend a photography gallery/exhibit – Done!  That’s exactly what I saw at MOLAA
84. Un-clutter digitally – SO organized!
Feeling better already.  Goodnight internet!  I better get some sleep for the very busy weekend I have ahead of me!  But do tell me, how are your resolutions coming along?
